Aberycynon TPO

An unfortunate example of what will eventually happen when you chop lots of large limbs off a Beech tree and build a house 12 feet away - one spring the buds won't break.

Background Information about Tree Surgery - Aberycynon

I had noticed this tree a couple of years ago, whilst visiting a friend nearby, a lovely big Copper Beech, unfortunately missing some lower limbs, with large wounds with bad finishing cuts.

This spring the buds didn't break. The tree was dismantled with the consent of Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council, during the summer holidays, to minimise disturbance to the primary school across the road.

Once the crown had been dismantled, the multi-stem frame of the tree was lowered with the "portawrap", straight into the back of the van and off to be fire wood.

Some pictures of Da Bomba doing his thing on a lovely Monday in Abercynon.

  • The climber begins to remove sections of a large tree well above a school playground
  • Gradually more and more branches are removed from the top half of the tree
  • With the majority of the tree top removed, the climber ascends to get the last few branches
  • With the tree bald, the climber stands atop the large remaining branch
  • Work in progress more and more branches are removed individually
