Carved Waymarkers

This series of three sculptural waymarkers were commissioned by Caerphilly County Borough Council, directing along the Route 4 Cycle Path (which forms part of the National Cycle Network) that runs through Bedwas Riverside Park, near Caerphilly.

Local grasses were carved in relief on the posts, which we milled from as section of the same Oak tree as "What Hides Behind", the collection of insects commissioned by Isca Hardwoods.

  • A large waymarker, planted in the ground, indicating that it is 4 miles away from Trethomas
  • Three large posts with the various different grass breeds carved into them
  • Another large waymarker, planted in the floor, indicating that it is 4 miles to Bedwas
  • Another post, highlighting direction, and distance to Trethomas
  • Showing the text Perennial Rye Grass in the side of one of the posts
  • Showing the text Crested Dogs Tail in the side of another one of the posts
  • A closeup of a waymarker, showing a distance of 4 miles from Trethomas and 4 Miles from Bedwas
